Member for Ideato Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere has set a record in representation that may remain unrivalled for a long time.
An Economists and opinion moulder, Comrade Gerald Okalla stated this while speaking with journalists on Ugochinyere’s one year score card in the National Assembly.
Comrade Okalla, a native of Umueshi, in Ideato South L.G.A., said a total of 100 students from various communities in the constituency have benefitted from the legislator’s scholarship programme.
He noted that Ugochinyere has also donated buses, tricycles, motorcycles to many indigenes of Ideato; installed borehole projects, as well as reconstructed and equipped schools in the area with learning materials.
According to him, the lawmaker within one year, has sponsored a total of 18 bills, moved seven motions and dropped on the floor of the Green Chamber six petitions aimed at ensuring welfare of Nigerians.
“To promote education and equip constituents with tools for learning, Ugochinyere rolled out an ambitious scholarship program that benefitted 100 students from various autonomous communities in Ideato North and Ideato South.
“The lawmaker has attracted the supply and installation of solar street lights, transformers, and the reconstruction of schools for improved learning and reconstruction of markets to give the needed impetus to commerce and boost the local economy. Most of these projects have been completed while others are currently under construction.
“To boost constituents’ interest in agriculture and ensure food security, Ugochinyere empowered some constituents through his agricultural empowerment programme. About 50 individuals are currently being set up with the requisite agricultural entrepreneurial training after which they will be provided with starter packs to embark on profitable agrobusinesses.
“During the Easter celebration, Ugochinyere rewarded long-suffering constituents with certain gifts under his special gifts empowerment programme. Shuttle buses, tricycles, and motorcycles were handed to their new owners to cushion the effects of the economic downturn.
“Ikenga Ugochinyere has sponsored a record 18 Bills in the last one year, 7 motions and presented 6 petitions on the floor of the Green Chamber.
“The lawmaker has demonstrated his commitment to changing the narratives of legislative representation in Ideato nation and impacting on the Constitution through robust legislations. Some of his bills seek the establishment of a National Hospital for Women in Ideato nation, a Federal College of Education in Umuobom, Ideato South, and the creation of an additional state in the South East, among others.
“Some of the motions sponsored by Ugochinyere include:
Need to reconstruct the failed portions of the Oba-Nnewi-Uga-Akokwa-Arondizuogu-Okigwe federal road in Idemili North/Idemili South/Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo, Aguata and Ideato North/South federal constituencies, Anambra and Imo states.
“Need to rehabilitate the collapsed Akokwa-Umuchima- Mgbe-Orlu federal road and the Mgbe-Umuezeala-Ogboko bridge in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State.
“Urgent need to proffer a lasting solution to the devastating gully erosion/total road collapse in Isiekenesi, Urualla,Oboukwu, Umueshi, Amanator, Arondizuogu, Akokwa and other villages and communities in Ideato North/South federal constituency of Imo State.
“Ugochinyere has constructed four motorized water boreholes in various communities in his constituency, including Umuopia Akokwa, Isiekenesi, Umuobom, and Urualla, while four other borehole projects in four other communities are still in the works.
“He has attracted the reconstruction of several school blocks in Ideato nation, he is also presently delivering school desks to various communities’ primary schools in Ideato North and South.
“The lawmaker has also attracted the supply and installation of solar street lights in various communities, including Akpulu, Umukegwu, Umualaoma and Ndi Akaeme Uno”, he submitted.
Stakeholders and analysts are of the view that by the time Ugochinyere clocks four years, he would have left a legacy that will marvel all.
