: Insists On No Rigging.
Forty eight hours to Imo Governorship election, the main opposition party in Imo,the PDP has called for neutrality of all security agents assigned to monitor the election.
This is even as they insisted on no rigging of the election.
In a release signed by the party’s publicity and media of the campaign council, Ikenna Onuoha and made available to Lead reads the Sam-Jones Governorship Campaign Council wishes to call on security agencies in the state to remain neutral and avoid being used by desperate politicians to subvert the wishes of the people during this Saturday election.
We recall that security operatives were used in the past to rig elections against the expectations of the masses, but for this upcoming poll, Imo people will resist any person scheming to steal people’s mandate.
It is not in doubt that APC and its candidate, Hope Uzodinma will be defeated in this contest if officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agents in the state will maintain a level playing field for all political parties, and shun any act capable of igniting crisis before, during and after the election.
It is worthy to note that Imo is predominantly a PDP state, where at least; 70% percent of its citizens have benefited immensely from the party in one way or the other.
For record purposes, it was under PDP administration that Imo state won different awards in education, health, tourism and security. Regrettably, our state is presently facing grave challenges occasioned by insecurity, abuse of human rights and corruption.
Also, the outgoing government of Hope Uzodinma has not only refused to pay civil servants and Pensioners, but has rashly declared over 4000 staff as “ghost workers” in a time where an average state workforce is struggling to survive.
For security agents also, it will be unintelligent for them to be part of any plot to rig this election to favour a man, under whose tenure, over 1000 security operatives have been gruesomely murdered,.
