While Imo people are still waiting for the full implementation of the law that has stopped Indiscriminate and high rate on prices of food items in the Markets by the Executive arm of the Government, same House of Assembly has again passed bills for the establishment of Scholarship Board in Imo as well as amendment of laws governing Local Government administration in Imo.
The bills which had on the 29th of May and 30th of May passed the Third readings and await for the Governor’s consent will encourage intelligent Imo Students to be awarded scholarships and bring all the administrative laws governing the Local Government into one book.
The bills which were chiefly sponsored by Imo Majority leader and member representing Owerri West State Constituency in Imo House of Assembly came up to give Imo,a handbook of law that will govern every aspect of of the Local Government administration starting from conduct of election, it’s finance as against what it used to be.
While explaining the details of the Bill on Scholarship Board, Onyemaechi pointed out that the Bill is of 6 parts & 21 sections.Reading out the details of the 6 parts as follows:
Part 1. The Preliminary aspect of the Bill.
Part2. The Establishment & Constitution of the Board.
Part 3. The Functions & Powers of the Board.
Part 4. Meetings of the Board.
Part 5. Staff of the Board.
Parts 6 & 7. Miscellaneous.
Onyemaechi further pointed out that the sections of the Bill stated clearly the Functions of the board pointing out that Imo People have never seen it like this in the past as this is the first time Imo People are having an amendment Bill that will strengthen Students and Imolites as a whole so as to enable them achieve what they were unable to achieve in the past.
Explaining further on Section 8 of the Bill , where the power of the Board is enshrined,he said that it should be a jubilation time for the people of Imo that the Scholarship Board which has been mouribond since year 2000, is now being revived.
A Bill which has been stagnant for 24 years is receiving attention now means that the 10 Assembly of Imo State House of Assembly and the Government of the day want Imo People to move forward.
Explaining the whole essence of the Bill, Onyemaechi enjoined Imo People to be happy as the hour has come for the State and her People to move forward, pointing out that this is also the Heartbeat of the Government of Dist Sen Hope Uzodinma.
In the words of the Majority Leader, ” The Government wants to revive this Board, with the aim of giving Scholarships to Imo students to add Bursory to it as the icing on the cake”.
Supporting the bill, member representing Nwangele State Constituency in the House,Rt Hon Chyna Iwuanyanwu revealed that when the bill becomes operational, the beneficiaries will automatically become patriotic having first benefitted from the State.
