In a passionate appeal to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Comrade Patterson Ekeugo, a prominent youth leader and president of the Umunkaru Youths Association in Ehime Mbano LGA, has expressed deep concerns regarding the alleged plans by the Federal Government to relocate internally displaced persons (IDPs) and migrants to the region.

This is even coming as he emphasized the fragile security situation in Nigeria, stressing that relocating IDPs to the relatively peaceful Ehime Mbano could jeopardize the community’s safety.

In a letter addressed to the Governor, Comrade Ekeugo appealed to the Governor to use his influence to halt the relocation plan.

Ekeugo called on the Federal Government to instead focus on helping displaced persons return to their original homes. He argued that resettling IDPs in the South East is unjustified, given the security concerns and socio-political complexities of the region.

The youth leader further urged Governor Uzodinma, who also serves as the Chairman of the APC Governors Forum, to align himself with the will of the people of Ehime Mbano and Ndigbo at large, rejecting the relocation plans.

He expressed confidence in Uzodinma’s leadership, referring to the governor’s achievements under the “3R” mantra of Recovery, Reconstruction, and Rehabilitation. Ekeugo believed that this stance, if successfully achieved, would further strengthen the governor’s political standing and popularity in the South East.

The letter also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider the proposed relocation, highlighting the collective opposition from the people of Ehime Mbano and beyond. In closing, Ekeugo reiterated the community’s trust in Governor Uzodinma’s leadership and expressed optimism that the governor would champion their cause.
