A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Barr. Ngozi Olehi says the future will be dreadfully bleak if the Nigerian youths do not use their population advantage to reverse Nigeria’s journey to looming political and economic disaster.

Delivering a lecture titled “The Imperatives For Good Governance In Nigeria: The Necessity Of Positive Youth Intervention” at the 2025 Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Ohaji, Barr. Olehi, SAN said that with the youth constituting more than seventy per cent of the Nigerian population, the political and economic destiny of Nigeria, badly battered by leadership deficit, unprecedented corruption, ineptitude and incompetence, are in their hands.

Barr. Olehi said the political space is littered with persons of questionable antecedent whose sole objective is to amass wealth adding that Nigeria will be unliveable in the next few years with the present planlessness, ineptitude and insecurity that are ravaging the entire country.

The legal luminary emphasized that notwithstanding the weakness of electoral and security institutions and their vulnerabilities, a large turn-out of angry and change-seeking voters will caution political actors and warn the myriad of conspirators to back off, abandon their greed and revive the economy that is gasping for life.

Barr. Olehi, SAN emphasized that with the precarious situation Nigeria has found itself, extra efforts must be made to mobilize the people especially youths, to out boundary-breaking voter education and be prepared to frustrate the political vampires that have ruined Nigeria, and are fervently labouring to waste the destiny of youths and the future generations pointing out there is nothing on ground to make the citizens hold their leaders accountable. He said that several countries that found themselves in the same mess Nigeria is going through presently like China survived it by strengthening the laws against corruption and consolidating governance mechanisms not by bare constitutional amendment adding that America and Britain that originated presidential and parliamentary models of democracy respectively are not quarrelling with their systems but countries like Nigeria that applying these systems are having the worst of times because of the greed, ineptitude and incompetence of their political actors who are not bothered about the debilitating consequences of their criminalities in governance.
.The Senior Advocate of Nigeria appealed to youths to rise from their slumbers and demand Accountability, Transparency and the Rule of Law as the basics of Good Governance, without which the gloom the country faces will be irreversible as hardships and poverty escalate adding that there is nothing sufficiently on ground to mitigate policy blunders that have trapped Nigeria into acute failure.

Barr. Olehi SAN regretted that ungodliness in governance is so astonishing that the political class take secularism to mean that God has no role in democracy and its allied institutions pointing out that what is clearly evil and clearly abhorred in civilized minds means nothing to an average Nigerian politician.
