The annual Zik’s Award Lecture of 2024 may have come and gone but it’s memory will remain green in the annals of the soil as a day the organizers picked and recognized the Senator representing Imo West, Senator Osita Izunaso as a promoter of National Unity.
The lecture with a theme “Nigeria’s Governance Model: Prospects and Perspectives,” held in Abuja had in attendance People from different walks of life in attendance. The year’s event was not just a lecture but a momentous occasion to commemorate the 120th posthumous birthday of one of Africa’s greatest statesmen, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, fondly called Zik of Africa.
The lecture brought together eminent scholars, policymakers, and dignitaries who explored Nigeria’s governance challenges and potential solutions, echoing the visionary ideals of Dr. Azikiwe. The Keynote address and exposition by the discussants centered on the need for inclusive governance, accountability, and a renewed commitment to the unity and development of Nigeria. The Keynote speakers’ perspectives reaffirmed Zik’s legacy as a champion of democracy, nation-building, and Pan-Africanism.
Speaking to Lead Express after the event, Izunaso had this to say”in an unexpected yet deeply humbling moment, I was privileged to receive a special award of recognition for my contributions to promoting national unity. This acknowledgment reflects my dedication to fostering collaboration, understanding, and progress across diverse communities in Nigeria. Being recognized in the same breath as Zik’s towering legacy is a testament to the impact of unity-driven efforts.
Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe’s life remains an eternal reminder that governance is about service, integrity, and vision. This event reignited my commitment to these ideals and underscored the importance of sustaining his legacy in our collective pursuit of a greater Nigeria.
