Group with the appellation”Okigwe Security Boardroon has called for emergency meeting over what it described as heightened insecurity, rumors, and incidents of arson in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area.
The group however called on the leaders of the zone to as a matter of urgency fix a meeting where issues bothering on the security of the zone should be discussed.
In a communique signed by Sir Chima Uzobuihe, the Convener of the Okigwe Security Boardroom, he alleged that there is an alarming silence from Okigwe’s leadership at a time when swift action is desperately needed adding that the contrast between this current inaction and the flurry of meetings typically held during election seasons, where Okigwe leaders often summoned gatherings based on personal political interests. These meetings, Uzobuihe pointed out, are usually called to sway the electorate in specific directions.
“In times like this, when there is an actual need for dialogue, these same leaders remain silent,” Uzobuihe lamented. “Now is the time to convene a series of emergency meetings, either at a central venue like Umueze I or on an LGA-by-LGA basis, to address the pressing concerns of insecurity.”
The OSB stressed the importance of sensitizing the public and dispelling rumors surrounding incidents at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Ehime Mbano. It is believed that this communication gap is fueling unnecessary fear and anxiety.
Uzobuihe emphasized the urgency of the situation, quoting a popular Igbo proverb: “Okenye anaghí anó n’úló ewu amúó na óbú” (An elder does not stay at home while a goat gives birth tethered). He concluded by appealing for immediate action to prevent further escalation, warning that failure to act swiftly could lead to further instability.
The call to action has been met with anticipation, as the residents of Okigwe Zone look to their leaders for guidance in these trying times.
