All is now set for the 2024 new yam Festival of Umuna Autonomous Community in Orlu LGA.
The festival which takes place on Sunday August 25th will start with a pontifical high mass at the St Joseph’s Catholic Parish Church Umuna.
In a release signed by the 2024 new yam Festival planning committee of Umuna and made available to Lead revealed that immediately after the 9 o’clock mass, the people of Umuna as well as all the invitees would proceed to the Palace of HRM, Eze Dr Douglas Okwara, the Ishiobiukwu Egedokpu for the lined up activities in commemorating the proper event.
As contained in the said release, all the Villages that make up the Umuna Autonomous Community would have their individual canopies and each of the said Village would proceed to Obiukwu where the Igwe of Umuna will seat on his palasial seat in his full regalia to receive homage by all the Villages on the basis of seniority.
Recall, HRM Eze Dr. Douglas Okwara is the fourth Traditional Ruler in Okwarachukwu Dynasty.
The Okwarachukwu Dynasty is as old as humanity and the Traditional stool is hereditary hence the said dynasty had produced Okwarachukwu the 1, Okwarachukwu the 11, Okwarachukwu 111 before the present Monarch,HRM, Eze Dr Douglas Okwara, Okwarachukwu Iv,Igwe of Umuna, Obi of Ebeasaa in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.
Speaking to Weekend Lead Express on the next Sunday’s event, Okwarachukwu who by virtue of the headship of Umuna in Orlu LGA and Isu Clan in particular, is the paramount head of Isu Clan and Aka ji ofor of Ebeasaa described the new yam festival of Umuna as an annual event through which the Community gathers at the Palace to thank God for protection from the planting season to harvest.
According to the first class Monarch who had served his University education in the US and had served at various cadres in the Traditional Institution, dignitaries across Imo would be present at the occasion.
He however used the forum to thank the People of Umuna over what he described as apt preparations ahead of the event and prayed to God to guide and protect all the People that would grace the event.
