Senator representing Imo West in the Red Chambers, Senator Osita Izunaso has called for a change in the appointment of the principal officers into the ECOWAS Commission without subjecting them to screening by the ECOWAS Parliament first.
Izunaso who disclosed this in Abidjan Cote dIvoire made it clear that Commission of the organization would be more formidable if the members of the Commission go through the screening ,confirmed eligible before they are appointed into the Commission.
Izunaso who disclosed this at Abidjan during the joint Committee of ECOWAS Parliament meeting led by the House Representatives Speaker, Benjamin Kalu however made it clear that once this is observed, the body would become stronger.
In his address which however centred on the theme of the meeting”Role of Parliament in Community budget formulation and monitoring, Izunaso a two time Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and former House of Representatives thanked his colleagues in their efforts in carrying out the oversight functions of the Parliament however made it clear that certain rules have to be enacted to inject life into the ECOWAS adding that such would also boost confidence the Member nations have in Parliament.
