Imo State Commissioner for Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Chief Mrs Ruby Emele has described Dr. Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala the Director General of World Trade Organization, (WTO) as great Nigerian, and global role model who has made women and Nigeria proud through her excellent track record in public service.
Emele who spoke in a chat , hailed Mrs Okonjo-Iweala on her second tenure reappointment as the DG of World Trade Organization, describing her reappointment as a remarkable proof of her excellent performance in her first tenure.
The Honourable Commissioner said Okonjo-Iweala has over the years in her different offices shown capacity and integrity to warrant her rise in international public service.
Emele who described Mrs Okonjo-Iweala as a top notch global public servant said she represents the Can Do spirit of the Nigerian woman as it has proved that Nigerian women were really industrious to be trusted with great offices.
The Commissioner hailed the world body for finding her worthy for the top job as the organization has grown from strength to strength with positive impacts on global trade.
She stated that Okonjo-Iweala remained a great role model to Nigerian women in public service.
It would be recalled that Mrs Okonjo-Iweala was reappointed unanimously after the specified period for expression of interest by interested nations and there was no candidate to challenge her.
Her reappointment takes effect in September 2025 amidst outpouring of eulogies for her good job at the World Trade Organization in her first tenure as the first African and first African woman to hold the position.
