Emeruwa Unveils Umunwaku Skills Acquisition Centre

Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has commended Chairman of African Primary Healthcare Foundation Board of Directors, Iheanacho Emeruwa, for initiating (bringing into being) and unveiling Umunwaku Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Centre (USAEC).

The Governor gave the commendation during the official unveiling of Umunwaku Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Centre at Obogwe, Umunwaku, Ohaji, Saturday.

Uzodimma, who was represented at the occasion by his Chief Political Bureau, Barr. Enyinna Onuegbu, said the initiation of the skills training centre was a great feat, assuring that the state government would effectively partner with Emeruwa to train youths on relevant skills to rejuvenate them.

“The initiation, unveiling of Umunwaku Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Centre is a great feat where youths will learn good skills that will empower them to be more useful.

The centre has good facilities. Government will partner with the centre to train youths on empowerment skills and such a feat will pull youths out of crime and violence. Let those who are going to be trained therein be focused as to gain relevant skills. Let the facilities also be protected”, the Governor advised.

Noting that the centre was set up to train the people on skills to empower themselves economically, Chairman of African Primary Healthcare Foundation Board of Directors, Iheanacho Emeruwa, outlined that the centre has departments of focus such as Industrial Welding, Carpentry and Furniture Making, Tailoring and Fashion Academy, Aluminum Fabrication, Information Technology, Plumbing, Bakery and a Fully Equipped Kitchen and A Modern Unisex Hair Salon.

Hinting that USAEC is a project of African Primary Healthcare Foundation which collaborates with Peter N. Obi Foundation, Emeruwa observed that APHF is a US based charity organization, registered under the Internal Revenue Service Code 501, Section C, that is allowed to perform charity work globally.

“For our work in Nigeria, we have 2 partners, Peter N. Obi Foundation, which is a specific partner for this project and ASPIN African Health Education and Research Initiative which is an NGO registered with Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja. Our goal is not only to teach the people skill, but also to train them on entrepreneur because students who are going to learn from the centre will also manage it.

“So, they can learn to manage their own business and to understand the skills of how they can manage a business, how to buy products, how to produce them, how they pay their staff, how they manage their overhead. It is going to be paid for and we will give scholarship to those who are talented, money made will be reinvested to have more facilities”, Emeruwa emphasized.

Also hailing Emeruwa and Dr. Greg Obi for the initiative, Dr. Goddy Esom Obodo (Chairman of the occasion), Member representing Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency, Hon. Eugene Dibiagwu, Member representing Ohaji/Egbema State Constituency, Hon Uzoma Francis Osuoha (Eze Buguma), former Commissioner of Lands, Barr. Golden Nwosu, Rev. Fr. Basil Nze (Principal of Azaraegbelu Secondary School, Emekuku Owerri), among other dignitaries, called on people to enroll at the centre to imbue themselves with empowerment skills to enable them defeat poverty.
