In consideration of the plight of Imo populace, the Member representing Mbaitoli State Constituency, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie has moved a motion during plenary on Wednesday, urging the state Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma to direct the Ministry of Health and Information to collaborate and sensitize the public on how to tackle this period of abnormally hot weather nay excessive heat.
He refered to the fact that the residents of the state have been experiencing extreme heat due to climatic change which according to his motion made people uncomfortable as it affected their livelihood.
The Mbaitoli legislator reminded his colleagues that elderly people and children would be the most affected as they often exposed to heat induced medical condition like high temperature and heat stroke. This is as he pleaded for the support of the motion in order to bring timely succour to the populace.
He therefore called on Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to assist in arresting the condition.
He said: “The condition will be ameliorated if the EEDC electricity supply is optimal in which case of heat wave may be better managed. This will make people make use of their cooling device.
“Imo state is always in darkness and this has led to massive destruction of refrigerated food items and other perishables.
He however regretted that the EEDC has not given any reasonable information for the epileptic power supply”
The motion which garnered overwhelming support from other members of the House was finally adopted by the leadership for onward Executive action.
