At last, peace has returned in Uzoubi-Umuna Autonomous Community in Orlu LGA.
Uzoubi-Umuna has been faced with controversies as the group known as New Face of Uzoubi-Umuna Organization sprouted up to pressurize the Eze, HRH, Eze B.C Okeke and his cabinet to call for an election on the grounds that Ikechukwu Nwaku led Executive had elapsed years back.
The pressure group which is led by Maazi Okwudili Amadi and Chief Charles Nnadi; both European based Uzoubians, also has Comrade GOC Nwadike, Chief Martins Ukanwa and Comrade Chukwuma Bob-Ihedioha among others as members.
Lead Express had on Friday March 16 on its banner head line, reported the steps taken by the said New Face Of Uzoubi-Umuna to ensure that peace reigns supreme in the Community known and addressed as the heart beat of Orlu LGA and Orlu Zone in general.
In the said report with a caption” Alleged Leadership Failure Uzoubi-Umuna In Turmoil As Group Calls For Removal Of PG, Conduct Of Election, Alerts Police, LGA Chairman”.
The group frowned that the previous administration had long elapsed but the PG had remained in office since two years without calling for election, but instead, had given itself another tenure. This has raised tensions in the community.
But in a bid to nip in the bud, the looming crises, the leadership of the Community through the Traditional Ruler, HRH, Eze B.C Okeke had on Monday March 18th, 2025 championed a meeting of the people of Uzoubi-Umuna and harped on the importance of peace and election.
This however led to the dissolution of the Nwaku led leadership and an instant interim Government was formed to carry on the affairs of the Community till August 2025 being the month for the new election.
Addressing the mammoth crowd that graced the event held at the Palace of the Traditional Ruler, HRH Eze BC Okereke, Ubi 1 of Uzoubi-Umuna expressed gratitude to the Community for coming out en masse despite the short notice of the meeting, pointing out that the action has indeed shown and proved that they have interest in the growth, peace and development of the Community, Lead Express gathered.
The Traditional Ruler who used the forum to commend the Nwaku led administration on the services rendered however cautioned his subjects against loyalty and allegiance to other Traditional Rulers other than him.
The Interim Government which has members drawn from all the Areas of the community was immediately inaugurated by the Monarch, and charged to initiate an election timetable that would see to a peaceful, free and fair election come August, 2025.
In their separate speeches, the Spoke persons of the New Face Of Uzoubi-Umuna at the meeting, Chief Martins Ukanwa and Comrd. GOC Nwadike thanked the People of Uzoubi for standing up for justice and embracing peace at last.
They further commended members of the New Face of Uzoubi-Umuna Organization, both at home and Diaspora, for their unalloyed Support for justice, progress and development of the Community while hinting that they would continue to champion for good governance in the community.
“And to those of you who do not have jobs other than stealing from the revenue of the community, we are appealing to you to please go find jobs and let our town make progress” Nwadike added.
