Member representing Orlu State Constituency in Imo House of Assembly,Dr Barr Ikenna Ihezuo has achieved another feat as the State House of Assembly had yesterday Tuesday September 17th, urged the State Governor to rescue Primary Schools 1 and 2 Umuna.
According to Ihezuo in the said motion, the said Schools which had produced men of timbers and calibers should not be allowed to go into extinct simply by flood.
The motion which urged the Governor to direct the Ministries of Education and Works and other relevant Agencies to urgently rescue the flood ridden Primary Schools 1 and 2, reminded the state Government that rainy season is around the corner with its hazards.
Recall that Ihezuo, a practising Lawyer with many years standing has many motions and bills for himself.
One of the recent motions of Ihezuo,was the one, calling on Governor to reconstruct the dilapidated Old Orlu Owerri Road.
According to Ihezuo, the state of the Schools require immediate attention by the Government to save them from flooding, lamenting that the pupils and the teachers would be stranded and helpless in the season.
The standing Committee Chairman on Judiciary and Information expressed worrisome over the neglect of the Schools by the Government, adding that it would be at the delight of the parents of the pupils and teachers to see that the schools are not washed away by the destructive floods.
According to him, if the two Primary Schools are left to stay without any assistance, through this rainy season, the parents of the pupils and the teachers will cry bitterly over the ugly menace of the flood seeing that the two schools have been taken over by the flood which makes learning on the schools difficult.
While leading in the debate, he lauded the Governor for providing Infrastructural development to Imo indigene, he noted that the schools current condition had not been brought to the know of the Governor, expressing hope that the Governor would attend to it upon the positive resolution of the motion by the House.
The motion which received overwhelming support by other lawmakers during Plenary as the Speaker Rt.Hon. Chike Olemgbe, member representing Ihitte Uboma State Constituency put the debate on voice votes.
Meanwhile, the motion was considered in affirmative as “Aye” voice had the majority, hence the Speaker directed the clerk to transmit the House resolution to the Governor for further Executive action.
While briefing the House Correspondents in his office shortly after the Plenary, Ihezue hinted that the motion followed the courtesy visit paid on him by the Old boys of the School recently and his Correspondent on the spot assessment of the Schools recently,
He used the interaction to inform his Constituency of his commitment to represent them effectively and efficiently.
Meanwhile, the old boys of Primary Schools 1 and 2, Umuna on same day paid a solidarity visit to the legislator and pledged their continued support in his legislative sojourn.
