Leadership of Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) has been admonished to apply proactive steps that will yield productive result against poor performance of Super Eagles in the on-going 2026 World Cup Qualifying Matches.
Speaking during a media chat in Owerri, shortly after the NFF apologised to Nigerian football fans for poor displays in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, the President of Owerri, Sports Club, Comrade Uchenna Nwokeji, called on NFF to match every effort they are making to ensure that Nigeria qualifies with impressive and productive result.
Expressing conviction about obvious need to address poor performances of Super Eagles, he maintained that what Nigeria Football Fans need now is solution not apology.
Reacting to one of the key points raised by NFF in their communique after Thursday’s meeting that the federation will bring in a foreign Technical Adviser for Super Eagles, he urged NFF to be proactive in their deliberations and considerations as there is little or no time for procrastination.
Comrade Nwokeji, who has done well in promoting sports in Imo State and beyond, passionately appealed to NFF to apply all vital measures, embark on a more scouting of quality players who are ready to play with extreme determination and all apply significant measures for a landslide victory in their remaining matches.
According to him, “there are payers yearning to wear the national colours, there are players who are determined to make a mark and are passionate to write their name in gold with basket of goals, NFF should go for these type of players, not those who are unserious”
Reacting to the matches between Nigeria and South Africa, which ended in draw, as well as Nigeria and Benin Republic which Nigeria lost, he observed that Super Eagles created good scoring chances in both games, but failed to perfect many of them.
The sports enthusiasts noted with strong believe that the round letter game is all about competence and productive result, he admonished the leadership of NFF to shun tribal sentiment in the choice of players.
He called for corrective measures that will close every lacuna created by the current poor performance of the super Eagles.
His words;’ from my observation, there is need to re-adjust in strategies, formations and method of communicating to players, I sense there is a loophole somewhere, that needs to be discovered and cover it up without delay”.
The President of Owerri Sports Club, explained that football, is one unique thing that gives Nigerians joy and Super Eagles games and victory have always reunited Nigerians, irrespective of religious inclination, tribe and political party affiliation, he urged NFF to make the eagles super again by quickly returning them to winning ways.
In a related development, Comrade Nwokeji, expressed displeasure over the position of HeartLand Football Club, who are comfortable on the relegation Zone even though they have improved in their recent games.
He seized the opportunity presented by the media chat to score, newly appointed Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha high, stating that ‘with recent impressive performance seen in the last outings of Heartland FC, there will be a meaningful improvement under Hon.Onyeocha, all he needs is support and prayers.”
