Two important motions have been adopted by Imo State House of Assembly to enhance the rural development in the State.
The proposals were to a larger extent, urging the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma to reconstitute the board and Management of Imo State Rural Roads Maintenance Agency (IRROMA) and secondly to reconstruct or stop the gully erosion along Isunjaba -Uburu Ekwe road by two different lawmakers.
The Chief Sponsor of the motions included Hon. Obinna Egu, member representing Ngor Okpala and Hon. Kingsley Ozurumba of Isu State Constituencies respectively.
Leading the debate on IRROMA, Hon. Egu reminded colleagues that IRROMA was launched on the 15th day of November,2008, with responsibility of opening up of rural areas and linking all parts of the State.
According to him, the initiative focused on transforming the State into a model one with emphasis on Industrialization and social Infrastructure.
He however regretted that the agency suffered negligence and poor management by successive administrations just as he observed that the present administration of Senator Hope Uzodimma with the mantra of shared prosperity which anchored on reconstruction, rehabilitation and Recovery had improved the infrastructural development.
The lawmaker posited that the Agency, when revived would be a catalyst for rural roads revolution in various Communities of the State.
The motion which received overwhelming support at the floor of the hallow chamber got the nod of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe, member representing Ihitte Uboma State Constituency as it was adopted. This is just as he directed the clerk to transmit the House resolution to the Governor for his executive action.
In the same vein, the motion on the need to intervene, reconstruct and stop the gully erosion along Isunjaba-Uburu Ekwe road tagged: “Save our Community Soul”.
Moving the motion, the member representing Isu State Constituency Hon. Kingsley Ozurumba pointed out that Isuokporo/Isunjaba/Uburu Ekwe-Njaba road is the only major road linking Uburu Ekwe Community and Isunjaba with over 30,000 population, adding that their source of livelihood has been mostly shutdown.
He further noted that Nwaorienkpu-Uburu Road and few other aforementioned roads were the only alternative route to access those communities, had been washed off by erosion.
According to him, Communities had utilized self help and contribution from various prominent individuals with no result due to the intensity of the challenge.
It was their resolved by the House through the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe, urging the Governor to direct the Ministry of Works to embark on thorough repairs, rehabiliation or reconstruction work on the road.
The House also resolved that the Ministry of Works to save the Community to commence palliative works on those roads before the rainy season sets pending when the major solution the erosion menace.
While interacting with House Correspondents in his office, Hon. Ozurumba encapsulated his primary purpose of been the lawmaker representing his people, saying he was there to give a quality, efficient and effective representation.
He said: “My simple job that I owe and came here to do is to represent my people, illuminate their problems, bring it to the government and get solutions to them.”
“And one of the tasks that came up today at the hallow chamber was the motion moved, which is the road connecting the Federal Constituency from Nwangele down to Isunjabato Uburu Ekwe and Njaba.”
“It is a major but unfortunately for us, we are being challenged y the topography of the environment.”
“Uburu Ekwe, an area with higher population has been cut off. The farmers there could not access good road to their farm produce to the market,
“The people have done their best to ameliorate the living conditions.”
“I am hopeful and optimistic that with what we have done here today, the State Government will see reasons and come to our aid”
