The Imo State House of Assembly has passed a bill to amend the Imo State Polytechnic law No.15 of 2012 during the plenary on Tuesday 30th April 2024.

The executive proposed legislation from the Majority leader, Rt. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, member representing Owerri West State Constituency seeks the amendment of Imo State Polytechnic law.
The bill which was read the second time during plenary at the last adjourned date on Thursday 25th April, 2024 and refered to the House Committee on dedication headed by Hon. Henry Agbasonu, member representing Ezinihitte State Constituency.
At the resumed sitting on Tuesday 30th April, 2024, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe who read the recommendations of the committee as the bill was read the third time

The state Assembly also passed a legislation to make provision for and improved electricity generation, transmission, generation and distribution within and for the residents of Imo State. The bill equally made provision for the establishment of a regulatory framework for Imo electricity market.

This according to the bill would ensure reliability and sustainability in the supply of electricity in the state and further enforce Consumer rights and obligation. The bill was chiefly sponsored by Hon. Obinna Egu, member representing Ngor Okpala State Constituency.
Rt. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, the Majority leader while briefing the House Correspondents shortly after the session, took time to explain the importance of the bill.
Onyemaechi elaborated on the relevance, saying the the bill establishing Imo Polytechnic needed an amendment because according to him, the campus at Omuma in Oru east requires a unified learning environment.

He said: “The Imo Polytechnic situates at Omuma and annexed in Orlu and Ehime Mbano Local government Area of Imo State respectively constituted some learning challenges. “One of those centres were donated by Catholic Church and they have decided to take back their property. “So the government of Imo State deemed it necessary to return all the annexed campuses to Omuma for a conducive learning environment.
In that case, it will bring their administrative running.
“In the appointment of Deputy Rector of the Polytechnic, a tenure is two years but the Governor out of grace reappointed him or her, he has a limit of two terms for four years, the law is very simple on that”

Earlier during plenary, the State Assembly screened and confirmed two more Commissioner nominees sent by the State Governor Senator Senator Hope Uzodimma even as he billed to inaugurate the Commissioners designate yesterday 30th April,2024.

The nominees included Engr Nwabueze Augmentin Oru west,
Barr Jerry Egemba, Ehime mbano
