The flag off ceremony of enrollment of 2,000 residents of Obowo Local Government Area into the ImoCare Health insurance programme by the governor, Sen Hope Uzodinma took place last Wednesday at Obowo Local Government Headquarters, Otoko. In his speech on the occasion, the Chairman, Obowo LGA, Barr Obioma Johnson Ehirim identified the programme as a historic milestone in their pursuit of accessible, affordable and quality health care for the people of Obowo, adding that the enrollment of 2,000 constituents into the ImoCare Health insurance programme is a significant achievement and a bold step by his administration aimed at securing a healthier and more prosperous future for Obowo people. Barr Ehirim disclosed that his administration in collaboration with the Imo State Heaith Insurance Agency, IMSHIA serves as a touchstone of their vision for sustainable health care access and development in Obowo, stressing that it is very core, it seeks to eliminate financial barriers to medical care for Obowo people, ensuring that no one is denied treatment due to economic hardship. He recalled that many times, the elderly, pregnant women, children and other vulnerable individuals have struggled to access essential health care services simply because they cannot afford it and this is why his administration is committed to building a system that guarantees that no one in Obowo is left behind when it comes to access to essential medical services. The Chairman noted that this high impact health intervention is in line with the vision of the governor, Sen Hope Uzodinma to end health care poverty in Imo State through the provision of affordable and accessible health care for all and today, Obowo stands as a proud beneficiary of this forward thinking policy and through the programme, 2,000 of their people including pregnant women, children, elderly, the poorest of the poor and the disabled would be covered under the programme ensuring that they have unhindered access to medical treatment without financial burden. He revealed plans to take proactive steps to improve the working condition of the primary health care workers by ensuring that the primary health care centres across the 10 INEC wards in Obowo are conducive and livable with the aim of fostering more efficiency, professionalism and improved service delivery for the people. Barr Ehirim urged all well meaning sons and daughters of Obowo to join hands in supporting, expanding and sustaining the noble initiative, adding that together, they can ensure that every family in Obowo has access to free and quality health care. Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner for Health, Primary Health, Social Services and Health insurance, Imo State, Dr Prosper Ohayagha Success who represented the Governor Uzodinma on the occasion expressed their determination to achieve universal health coverage, pointing out that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation. Dr Success thanked the governor for giving the push for the programme and for his commitment to the health and well-being of the people of the state, noting that 2,000 lives is not a mean feat. The member representing Obowo state constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Barr Kennedy Ibeh extolled Governor Uzodinma for the laudable initiative, stressing that Obowo people are excited for the dividends of democracy and direct impact of good governance.
