The government of Imo state has frowned at the activities of road transport workers who load their vehicles on the road and those who pick passengers on the road saying that it is not good as it may lead to all forms of criminality like kidnapping, armed robbery, assassinations etc in the state.

The government cautioned the National Union of Road transport workers to warn their members from loading their vehicles on the road, but that they should use the approved motor parks to do their businesses, adding that any transporter caught loading vehicle on the road will face the full wrath of the law.

The Eastern lead Express newspaper’s investigation reveals that most transporters who are not members of NURTW hide under the guise of being members of National Union of Road Transport Workers to disobey the workers of the government who are assigned to sanitize the roads. Also, that the leaders of NURTW are disobeying the instructions of the governor by supporting their members to load their vehicles on the road, instead of the approved motor parks.

It was gathered from the interviews conducted across the city that some road users are happy with what the special adviser to the governor, on Motor parks, Hon Frank Onwumere is doing; by trying to sanitize the roads and make it free from all forms of criminality and blockage. They warned everyone dropping the names of the governor and other appointees in order to disrupt the good work of Hon Frank Onwumere; to desist forthwith and allow him to continue the good works he is doing for Imo people.

The road users call on the chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers Hon Sam Ude to caution his members and those dropping the name of the union to stop disturbing the workers of the government from carrying out their assignments in the guise of being union members.

Speaking to members of the press recently, the Special Adviser to the governor on Motor parks, Hon Pastor Frank Onwumere said, his vision is to write his name on gold as he will ensure that Douglas road and other major roads in Owerri are passed freely and when they ask, people will say Hon Frank did it. ” I want to see people stop loading on the road and from there insecurity and kidnapping will stop, he stated.”

Onwumere said he would achieved this by doing it professionally adding that he had trained his men on the professional ways of apprehending offenders and warned motorists and traders to desist from blocking the roads as offenders will be punished.

He calls on our brothers and sisters to allow them do the Job Imo government has assigned to them to do. ” Let the government functionaries stop disturbing the success of this job as it posses big problem, and should be stopped; NURTW should stop intervening for their workers, he stated.”
