: Victims Cry To Uzodinma.
Owners of Central Market Layout along PH Road, opposite Apalms or Gatewood Hotels have called on Uzodinma to come to their aide as Owerri Capital Development Authority had yesterday Thursday February 1st demolished Buildings of individuals. which owners purchased .
This is even as the Victims wondered why and how a Government would work against its own policies.
The 35 plots of Land duly bought with Certificates of Occupancy by the following victims of the demolition in 2014 were yesterday raised down,an act which Passers by decried at.
The owners include,Sunway Global properties Nig. ltd, Ekepereamaka Nwankwo, Nwankwo Emmanuel, Zero- one Global properties,Uche Stanley Ugochuckwu, Anoruo Joy, Ashiegbu Donatus, Ashiegbu Morgan, Chukwu Morgan, Azubuike Madusinachi, Zuroka Kema were duly acquired with every statutory payments made before the C of O was given which is the highest document for land allocation.
Lead reports that currently the properties built on the said plots are being demolished by OCDA led by its General Manager accompanied by Police Men with Anti kidnapping Department.
Information to Lead revealed that the victims upon notice the plot to demolish the area proceeded to Court against the Ministry of Lands, Commissioner For Lands,Imo State Government, Surveyor General of the State, Attorney general of the State and OCDA to ascertain how a duly acquired land was to be demolished without compensation.
However, speaking with the counsel to the Plaintiffs,Bar Uche Ijeoma decried plots of Land duly purchased and developed would in turn demolished without compensation .
The lawyer further queried the rationale behind Government, demolishing properties which are before the court of competent jurisdiction adding that the said matter has been slated to be heard in Court by next Thursday being February 8th.
In his words,” the group of individuals claiming to be From government are currently demolishing properties duly acquired saying they want to use it to build market. Is it not the same government that gave them the properties and collected money from them? If the government wants to revoke it, they should have paid compensation to the land owners, he said.
I don’t think Governor Uzodinma I know is aware of this act,as I speak,we have reported the incidence to the original owners of the Land who are the Traditional Rulers of Nekede and the denied knowledge of such act which they described as incuberance.
The lawyer however appealed to the State Government to investigate the matter so as not to infringe on the people’s rights to own Properties.
