Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma may face a serious battle in his bid to handover Power to Owerri Zone after the completion of his remaining four years term which hitherto will end by 2027. This however followed the vow by Okigwe Zone People to take over from him on the grounds that they are suffering same fate or marginalisation with Owerri People in the journey to Government House. Governor Uzodinma had during his campaigns as well as after his emergence for the second term vowed to support the people of Owerri Zone to succeed him inline with the renewed charter of equity. Speaking with Lead Express, one of the APC Chieftains who would not want his name in print hinted that Uzodinma’s plan for Imo Charter Of equity can only work if an Okigwe Zone person is allowed to complete their truncated one term. The idea of charter of Charter of equity in deciding the zone that should go for Governor is a welcome development but emphasising that it must be the turn of Owerri is unacceptable. According to the party’s Chieftain, Uzodinma and the leaders should zone the Governorship seat of 2027 to Okigwe Zone to enable them complete their remaining one term which was truncated by Orlu People during the time of Ikedi Ohakim if they are sincere. He however made it clear that members of the APC in Okigwe Zone are waiting for the 2027 to inform the Governor that for the renewed charter of equity to work, Okigwe Zone should be allowed and supported to complete their remaining four years tenure and after which Owerri Zone would take over. He that goes to equity must go with clean hands, for that principles of Charter Of equity to work in Imo, the leaders, including the Governor would ensure that Okigwe Zone takes the shot in 2027, he said. It would be recalled that former Governor of Imo,Ikedi Ohakim after his first term lost his second term to former Governor Rochas Okorocha in 2011. Ohakim would have completed eight years tenure for Okigwe Zone but it was truncated by an Orlu son,Rochas Okorocha.
