An Imo state youth, in his early 30s has narrowly escaped death after some group of security agents allegedly stormed his home in Orlu to apprehend him after discovering that he is a member of the notorious and proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The youth identified as, Ejinkeonye Harrison from Orlu local government area of the state was alleged to be one of the top members of the IPOB that has maintained an intense and bloody clash with security agencies in the five South Eastern part of Nigeria. Report has it that their combats with the law enforcement agents in the last five years, over 1500 innocent citizens have lost their lives.
According to an insider source, Mr Ejinkeonye Harrison is said to be on the wanted list of security operatives over his alleged involvement in various crimes against the state, noting that all efforts to arrest him to face the wrath of the law proved abotive.
The source further disclosed that since members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra allegedly broke into the headquarters of the correctional center in Owerri in a bid to free their members, security agencies had intensified serious manhurt on the fleeing ones for immediate arrest and prosecution.
Investigation conducted further revealed that Mr. Ejinkeonye Harrison, as one of the alleged critical members of the group and already in the wanted list of security operatives was tipped for either arrest, prosecution or by firing squad as the only way to avenge all actrocities he, in collaboration with his group allegedly committed against the state.
An indigene of Orlu, the home town of the escapee IPOB member, Chief Maxwell Onyemaechi, said that, “members of IPOB are automatically arrested and taken to only God knows area and no one sees them again once captured. This keeps happening every day and night and no one not even the Governor of the state is doing anything about this alleged illegal abduction and killing of our people in the state.”
He maintained that the said escapee, Ejinkeonye Harrison ran out of his home to avoid being killed by group of security agents who had earlier came to their place for arrest due to his alleged membership of the Indegineous People of Biafra ( IPOB ).
Furthering, Chief Onyemaechi revealed that once the security agencies find out that anyone from 18 years and above is a member of IPOB that has terrorized the South Eastern part of Nigeria, such person’s life is automatically in danger.
Report has it that Indegineous People of Biafra are indigenes from the Eastern part of the country that are seeking for a referendum over high level marginalisation being meted at them by the Nigerian government for so many decades.
Information further has it that the marginalization of the Igbo has been going on without the government doing anything to correct it, adding that all calls by leaders of the Southeast Nigeria to restructure the country has been utterly ignored by the government hence, leading to the social unrest.
Recall that the leader of the proscribed group, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu arrested in Kenya in June 2021 is still in the custody of Department of State Security Agency (DSS ) after several court judgements ordering for his released were refused by the government.
