In a somber display of solidarity, Members of the Southern Youth Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) led by it’s Chairman and Convener of Imo Christian Youth Peace Initiative ( ICYPI), Barr. Oluchukwu Ijere Nnabugwu have visited the hospitalized victims of the recent tragedy at IMSU junction.
This is even coming as they appealed to the Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Hope Uzodinma to as a matter of urgency, commence the construction of Flyover to avert further incident while calling on the government, church leaders, organizations and well- meaning Nigerians to intervene and assist in the payment of hospital bills of the victims.
Lead Express reports that the horrific accident, which saw a trailer plow into buses and pedestrians, resulting in loss of lives and numerous injuries, has shaken Owerri city to its core.
Speaking during the visit, Barr Nnabugwu disclosed that the delegation on Saturday night visited the venue where the incident occured, noting that it was such a pathetic solution. He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the management and staff of FMC Owerri especially the accident and emergency units for their swift response and compassionate care of the accident victims.
” The professionalism and dedication demonstrated by medical personnel in the face of such a harrowing situation have been commendable, providing solace to both the injured and their families”, he noted.
As the injured individuals continue to undergo treatment, the Youth leader further raised concerns about the financial burden of hospital bills. In his words, ” recognizing the strain this places on the affected families, we are calling on government’s immediate intervention and assistance from philanthropic individuals and organizations, as most of the victims need urgent surgical intervention”.
“We are also calling on the Government to find out a lasting solution to the incessant accidents at that junction. It’s high time to pay more attention to lives of citizens as well as prioritize the construction of a flyover at IMSU junction inorder to end the incessant accidents that have been recorded over the years.It is the duty of Government to should think about better construction that will enable heavy truck passed freely without using Imo people as their breaking points. This critical infrastructure project would not only enhance road safety but also avert the potential for further tragedies”, he submitted.
He further sympathized with the families who Lost their love ones in the fatal incident and prayed God to accept their souls.
