Managing Director of the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission ( ISOPADEC) Chief Austin Onyedebelu has stated the Commission’s readibess to pursue the completion of every abandoned projects by the previous Board of the Commission.
The affected projects according to him, include 24 School buildings and health centers scattered around the ISOPADEC catchment areas in Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta and Oru-East LGAs.
The Managing Director further revealed the Commission’s preparedness to embark on other fresh impactful projects, but explained that this would be predicated on the outcome of community needs assessment sessions to be held at various town hall meetings.
Chief Onyedebelu who revealed this on Friday at the Oru-East Council Headquarters where he sought the support and collaboration of stakeholders however thanked 3 Governor on his enthusiasm to move Imo forward.
The ISOPADEC boss however cautioned that the achievement of meaningful development anywhere, especially in the oil producing region could be complicated by a regime of instability and insecurity, and sued for peace and harmonious coexistence among the peóple. He reiterated the Government’s call for an end to all hostilities and for all combatants and aggrieved persons to quit the bushes, trenches and embrace the State Government’s well-intentioned offer of forgiveness.
“His Excellency is in a hurry to develop the oil producing areas of the state. He has asked me to identify the critical needs of the people. So we are starting from the completion of abandoned projects. Those schools and health centres. We will start new projects too. We will do our roads. We need the collaboration of all the council chairmen in the oil producing areas. They will tell us what to do for the people. We will also visit the communities ourselves and assess their needs. We have alot to do for our people. We are not wasting time.
“But I will not be coming on road inspection when some of our brothers are shooting gun here and there. In the oil producing areas, no one should be shooting catapult, let alone gun. I am not supposed to be going round ISOPADEC catchment areas with gunboats. Let our brothers and sisters in the bush come out and embrace peace. Let this message go out. There’s nothing like freedom. With peace in our land, we will achieve our targets in ISOPADEC”, Chief Onyedebelu said.
