It was a moment of joy and celebrations in Alaoma Owerre-Ebeiri Autonomous Community in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, as their traditional ruler, HRH, Eze Aloy Igwe (Ezeoma II, Chinemeze I) on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, brought succour to widows and other indigent persons in the community and neighbouring communities through the distribution of Christmas palliatives of bags of rice and cash support to them.
The event which took place at Eze Aloy Igwe’s palace, witnessed sixty two (62) beneficiaries pouring out their emotional blessings and gratitude towards the traditional ruler for his yearly act of charity towards the downtrodden which he has sustained for almost a decade. The beneficiaries of Ezeoma’s philanthropic gestures were drawn among the widows and the needy from Alaoma Owerre-Ebeiri and neighbouring communities and supervised by St Martin’s Catholic Parish, Alaoma Owerre-Ebeiri Charity Commission.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Eze Igwe, noted that his intervention towards bringing succour to them was motivated by his desire to always interact with them and to see them joyful despite their challenges. He added that it was necessary for him to share what he had with them having been blessed by God, pointing out that doing so would have accomplished God’s injunction of love and charity towards the less privileged as Christmas massage preaches.
Eze Aloy Igwe, who wished the beneficiaries a joyful Christmas celebration, encouraged them not to despair by their predicaments, worsened by the current economic hardships in the country, but to always trust in God’s love, care, provisions and guidance for them. He reminded them that God would never abandon them because He cares for them, and would always send helpers to them as He had done through him.
The traditional ruler, used the opportunity to pray for peace and progress of Alaoma Owerre-Ebeiri Autonomous Community as well as God’s blessings and protection upon all the people of the area. Eze Aloy Igwe while soliciting support towards moving the community forward, prayed that other privileged indigines of the area would compliment his humanitarian efforts towards the needy in the area, promising that his reign as their king would bring unprecedented development to the area.
Extolling the traditional ruler, the Priest in charge of St Martin’s Catholic Parish, Owerre-Ebeiri, Rev Fr. Dr. Chibuike Ukeh, stated that Eze Aloy Igwe through the gesture had aligned himself with the Word of God concerning rejoicing with those that rejoice as well as empathizing with those in challenges. He disclosed that Christmas depicted a time of giving in emulation of God’s gift of His Son to humanity, but commended Eze Aloy Igwe for maintaining his yearly philanthropic gestures despite harsh economic realities.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Parish Charity Commission, Mr. Tony Ejeh, described Eze Aloy Igwe as a man of great faith, having demonstrated such coporal work of mercy as admonished in the Scriptures. He added that many have benefited from the king’s benevolence over the years in the parish and beyond praying for more blessings upon him to continue the good works. According to him, Eze Aloy Igwe had become an instrument of converting people who are touched by his philanthropy to Christianity.
Similarly, Chief Ogbuji Cajetan and Mr. Fortunatus Dike observed that such work of charity would be rewarded as they expressed joy over Eze Aloy Igwe as their traditional ruler. While a youth leader, Mr. Chinedu Duru, hailed the king for his good works towards the needy and in other areas of the community. He noted that within a short period of his emergence, the traditional ruler has leveraged his goodwill and contacts in attracting developmental projects to the community, assuring of their total support.
Some of the beneficiaries while interacting with this reporter, expressed their deep gratitude to Eze Aloy Igwe for coming to their assistance, while praying to God to protect and bless him abundantly for identifying with them. They described the gesture as touching, impactful, overwhelming as well as symbolizing restoration of hope and joy for the Christmas celebration because they couldn’t have afforded the high costs of the palliatives.
They beneficiaries included: Mrs. Eunice Okwuchukwu from Umuebidike, Mrs. Rita Nkemka from Eluama and Mrs. Mary Ukemezie among others who thanked God for giving them Eze Aloy Igwe both as an indigene of the area and as their traditional ruler.
