What can best be described as jubilation galore has become the order of the day in Imo APC as Party under the leadership of Hon Macdonald Ebere PhD, has refunded the nomination and interest forms money to the unsuccessful aspirants for the position of Chairmanship and Councillorship seats.
The decision to return the money was sequel to the earlier appeal made by Governor Hope Uzodimma to the leadership of the party.
Following the successful and transparent conduct of the party primaries by APC through a consensus as enshrined in their constitution which saw to the emergence of candidates for the Chairmanship and Councillorship positions of their various LGAs and wards, the Ebere-led APC State Working Committee has continued to receive an overwhelming applause from the participants.
According to political pundits, what APC Chairman and the State Leader of the party and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma have done has remaind one of its kinds in the political history of not only the State, but the nation at large.
They argued that APC hierarchy in the State could have decided to close their eyes on the aspirants who did not make the list of successful Chairmanship candidates and Councillorship and insisted that for the leadership of the Party to have started disbursing the money since yesterday to the unsuccessful aspirants shows that Imo APC has human face.
APC recorded an overwhelming number of subscriptions during the sale of its expression of interest and nomination forms (approximately 200 chairmanship aspirants and well over 800 councillorship aspirants purchased forms), underlining its massive acceptability across Imo grassroots, had been projected to descend into major crisis by outsiders, but the wisdom of His Excellency in managing the situation and keeping the Party together, ensured that the projections of pessimists never saw the light of the day.
While the efficiency and effectiveness of the Party’s State Working Committee under the very charismatic and pragmatic leadership of Ebere Macdonald Kelechi, PhD, cannot be questioned, His Excellency, as the undisputed leader of the Party in the State brought his wealth of wisdom and popularity among Party faithfuls and Imolites in general into bear by appealing to the peaceful disposition and unquestionable loyalty of the Party’s members to agree to a consensus arrangement. This, as noted, saved the aspirants huge sums of money which many of them might have spent in trying to woo Party leaders and members. This option is also credited with reducing rancour within the Party and eschewing possible violence that some opposition desperados had planned during the primaries.
Meanwhile, some affected aspirants have continued to applaud the decision of the party to return their money, a prominent aspirant from Aboh-Mbaise, Dr Chibuike Onyeukwu who was said to have been working closely with the Party’s candidate, Barr Iheukwumere Alaribe in mobilising for victory in the election was among those that applauded the party. He praised the governor and Party leadership for ensuring a less rancorous nomination process and assured of his 100% loyalty and solidarity to the governor.
Another chairmanship aspirant in Okigwe LGA, Hon Chidiebere Igbo, popularly known as “Ibiri Kam Biri”, has also dissolved his campaign outfit and aligned fully with the successful candidate ,Lady Nkechi Mbonu ( Igolo Okigwe), for the election.
Igbo, who has had a brief stint as a councillor in Okigwe is known for his mobilisation capacity and strong leadership with the youths of the LGA.
There is however a general consensus from voters that APC has been projected to have a clean sweep of all the seats on September 21st by respected political pundits. They refer to the election as a walkover by the ruling Party, crediting governor Uzodimma’s unassailable popularity across the State and the cohesion within the Party under the dynamic leadership of Hon Macdonald Ebere ,PhD, as well as the popularity of the Party’s candidates.
