It is no longer news of an ongoing battle between land grabbers in the state and office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on land recovery headed by Hon. Paschal Nwakanma who is hell bent in seeing that all government landed properties illegally taken over by land grabbers are recovered accordingly.
However, the land grabbers are no longer comfortable because they cannot make headway hence have been strategizing on how to survive the onslaught.
Our Correspondent who has been following and covering the land recovery matter discovered that the land grabbers have resorted to blackmailing andattack on Hon. Nwakanma ranging from call for his sack to discredit him before the public and his master, Governor Hope Uzodinma.
The attack was aimed at frustrating the dutiful young SA from carrying out his legitimate duties assigned to him by the State,
Unfortunately, on discovering that the strategy did not work, they now changed their style and to make it look real now involves some villagers/communities by brainwashing them to lay claim on the government land through white paper reports which they will leverage on to come into the lands for easy sharing.
one of the cases that is now causing trouble in one of the communities in Owerri west is where groups of people who brought into the ideas, and have been pushing the idea on a particular land they don’t really have ownership are being resisted by the original owners of the land whom government actually did negotiation with for its acquisition years back are now calling on the Governor to come to their rescue.
It is a known fact that gyovernment has the right of acquisition on lands based on the Land Use Act.
Meanwhile, when the SA on Land recovery Hon. Paschal Nwakanma was contacted on phone over the development, he has this to say,
“My brother, the issue of land grabbing in Imo State is a monster which has grown wild but, we are doing our best to make sure we put a stop to it.
That is why you see all these blackmails against my person but that will not in any form deter me from carrying out the mandate given to me by the Governor for the good of Ndi Imo. Of course, you know that it is not easy to let go by these people who have been feeding fat from taking possession of govt landed properties over the years and just of a sudden the properties are taken away from them and by the grace of God we will over come. Like I said earlier, it baffles me why an individual/groups of people because they are in authority will corner landed properties that belongs to the people to themselves, their acronyms and relations and will be living big at the expense of the people, as matter of fact, all these has to stop.
In fact, I have to say this we should learn from our Governor’s conduct over land, no parcel of land our Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma cornered to himself since he became the governor of Imo state despite that he has the powers innated on him by land use act. This is self-discipline in action.
Therefore, I repeat we will not take it lightly with any one who wants to mess up as it concerns land grabbing in the state”.
