Lawyer cools off in detention for killing teenager in Imo

Imo State Police Command have arrested a 64-year-old legal practitioner, Barrister Donald Mbamah, in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old student, Paul Victor, in Owerri.
in a press release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, it stated that the incident occurred on March 17, 2025, at around 12:34 PM at Mbamah’s residence in Area N, World Bank, New-Owerri. The victim, a student of Urban Development Secondary School, was allegedly shot in the buttocks under circumstances that are currently under investigation.

“Police operatives from the New Owerri Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), responded swiftly to a distress call from a concerned neighbor who heard the gunshot. Upon arrival, they arrested the suspect and rushed the victim to General Hospital, Umuguma, for treatment. However, despite medical efforts, Paul Victor was confirmed dead on March 20, 2025”.

‘Following the arrest, Barrister Mbamah was transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further interrogation. The police are also working to recover the alleged firearm used in the shooting while documenting evidence, including crime scene photographs”.

The Imo State Police Command further extended its condolences to the victim’s family and assured the public that a thorough investigation was underway. Authorities confirmed that the suspect would face legal proceedings once sufficient evidence had been gathered.

The police urged the public to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their hands, emphasizing that justice would be served through due process. While reaffirming the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring that the case is handled transparently and in accordance with the law.
