The Supreme Court Judgement which hitherto has stripped the Governors of powers to control Local Governments funds has come and gone but the implications remain as fear of losing Monthly allocations has gripped Twenty Governors of the Federation which have no elected Councils.
Supreme Court of Nigeria had over the weekend given what has been described in various quarters as a landmark Judgement.
Speaking on the said Judgement, the national Secretary of the PDP, Senator Nnaemeka Anyanwu described the Judgement as a way of stopping corrupt Governors from embezzlement.
In a release signed by his Media aide, Ikenna Onuoha and made available to Lead, Anyanwu hailed the Judiciary for the Judgement while describing the Institution as indeed, the last hope of the common man.
However, Lead gathered that about Twenty States are likely going to lose the LGA monthly allocations following their inabilities to have elected Councils.
It would be recalled that the Supreme Court of Nigeria has delivered judgement on the suit filed by the Attorney General of the Federation against the 36 Governors, for the granting of financial autonomy to the 774 Local Government Areas.

Delivering the judgement, Justice Agim said that allocations to the Local Government should be paid directly to them from now henceforth. The apex court also said that such fund should be paid to Local Government Areas with duly elected officials and not Caretaker Committees.

This means that Local Government Areas in 20 States of the Federation will not get the allocation until Local Government election is carried out. The affected States include

Anambra,Rivers,Jigawa,
Imo, Kwara,Zamfara,
Benue, Bauchi
Others include Plateau, Abia , Enugu,Katsina
Kano, Sokoto, Yobe, Osun,Delta
Akwa Ibom
Cross River.
