The Imo Progressives Movement (IPM), a prominent grassroots political organization in Imo State, has declared Hon. Eugene Okechukwu Dibiagwu as the Best-Performing Federal Lawmaker from Imo State in the ongoing 10th National Assembly.
Marking two years since his inauguration on June 13, 2023, as the Member representing Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta, and Oru West Federal Constituency, Hon. Dibiagwu was lauded for what IPM described as “transformational representation” characterized by infrastructure delivery, legislative innovation, and broad-based empowerment.
IPM’s Director of Media and Publicity, Collins Opurozor, described Dibiagwu’s performance as “matchless” and “a model for people-oriented governance.” According to the organization, the lawmaker’s achievements are visible across all communities within his constituency.
Infrastructure: Connecting Communities, Boosting Commerce
Dibiagwu’s infrastructure drive includes several road projects, notably:
The strategic Mgbidi Road in Oru West,
The expansive Akabor–Awa–Oguta corridor, and
The Awarra–Ochia–Ikwerrede Road in Ohaji-Egbema.
These projects, IPM said, are unlocking economic opportunities and improving access to schools, healthcare, and markets.
Education: WAEC Fees Fully Covered for Thousands
In a first-of-its-kind intervention, the lawmaker paid full WAEC registration fees for students across 27 secondary schools in his constituency. This initiative has reportedly benefited thousands of students and relieved parents of financial burden.
Economic Empowerment: Tools, Capital, and Transport Ventures
Under his economic empowerment scheme:
33 young constituents received fully-equipped buses to launch transport businesses,
45 sewing machines and 45 grinding machines were distributed to skilled youths and rural traders,
37 motorcycles were given out to support local logistics and personal enterprise,
₦500,000 cash grants were awarded to 78 small business owners to start or scale up enterprises.
IPM noted that these interventions were aimed at sustainable livelihood support, rather than one-off handouts.
Healthcare: Free Insurance for 3,000 Vulnerable Citizens
Dibiagwu also enrolled 3,000 constituents into the Imo State Health Insurance Scheme, paying ₦45 million to cover access to medical services for the elderly, women, and children.
Legislative Impact: Reform-Driven Representation
Among his legislative contributions, a constitutional amendment bill seeking to compel Presidents and Governors to attach portfolios to ministerial and commissioner nominees has passed Second Reading in the House. This, IPM emphasized, could significantly boost transparency and accountability in appointments.
Hon. Dibiagwu has also moved several motions on issues affecting the Niger Delta, youth unemployment, and rural development, further establishing his reputation as a vocal and impactful lawmaker.
IPM praised Dibiagwu’s accessibility and responsiveness, saying his leadership has “demystified governance and brought it closer to the people.”
“As the 10th Assembly enters its second half, we are confident Hon. Dibiagwu will continue to raise the bar,” the statement concluded. “He remains a beacon of effective representation, and a leader Imo State can be proud of.”
The Imo Progressives Movement is a leading grassroots political and advocacy platform in Imo State. Founded and facilitated by Hon. Dibiagwu, it played a key role in the successful re-election of Governor Hope Uzodimma in 2023.
