The Rivers State Police Command have arrested  a man identified as Mr Michael  Chidozie for allegedly beating and strangling his wife to death in their home in Mile 4, near Port Harcourt.

Mrs Ufuoma Eriera Chidozie who died leaving behind her sons aged 10, 7, and 5, hailed from Delta State. And had allegedly died after sustaining injuries following the assault in the early hours of Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

According to a source who spoke to Punch, the victim’s husband called his late wife’s brother to come that there was an emergency at their home but fled before his in-law arrived.

The source added that: “When the late woman’s brother arrived, the house was open and quiet. He then went in only to find the lifeless body of his sister. He shouted and called out the name of the woman’s husband.

But he was nowhere to be found and there was no trace of him. Since then they have been looking for him and even reported the matter to the police.”

The source further revealed that the couple had been having issues in their marriage but had refused to go their separate ways.

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, and  revealed that the suspect who is in detection was arrested on Wednesday morning, March 6, by the Agip Police Division, Mile 4, Port Harcourt, and that an investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Ufuoma Eriera Chidozie’s corpse has been deposited in the mortuary pending an autopsy.
