The attention of Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) Imo state council has been drawn to a recent publication in an Owerri based tabloid with the caption Avu mechanic village leadership passes confidence vote on their chairman– Ugwuegbu, with the rider— Distances self from Nnamdi’s activities aimed at not only tarnishing the image/ integrity of their State Chairman Comdr Kyrian Nnadi but also discrediting the good jobs has has been doing for the Imo Machanics.
In a press statement signed by NATA state secretary comdr Engr Christian Okwulehi and the Union’s PRO Comdr Ifeanyi Nworgu and made available to Newsmen, the Association made it clear that it would have ignored the such publication but for the avoidance of doubt and to keep the record straight decided to address the issue to make the general public know the true position.
The union therefore made the following Clarifications
that as NATA is the umbrella body for mechanics in Nigeria so also the Imo chapter is in charge of mechanics and mechanic villages in the three zones of the state namely Orlu, Okigwe and Owerri,. that’ Imo NATA has its Headquarters at Avu modern mechanic village, Owerri west, that Avu modern mechanic village is currently housing partly mechanics from Irete, Nekede, Orji and Owerri municipal old mechanic villages, that the business of relocating imo mechanics from these old mechanic villages to Avu modern mechanic village was negotiated by Imo NATA in 2015, that the issue of allocation of spaces for shops to mechanics at Avu modern mechanic village was carried out by Imo NATA headed by comdr Kyrian Nnadi during his first tenure as the state chairman in that 2015 as directed by the then Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha hence no individual or particular unit otherwise refers to as local chapter has the right to go into negotiation/ agreement with any person/ land developer without the consent/ directive of imo NATA.
The statement however made it further clear that COCEAN OIL & GAS owned by one one chief Ndubuise has no land at Avu modern mechanic village neither do the leadership Avu mechanic village ( the Local chapter) has the right to go into negotiation with COCEAN OIL & GAS for land belonging to imo mechanics which indeed is the main reason for the said publication against their Chairman Comdr Kyrian Nnadi. Stressing that the matter is currently before the commissioner of police imo state.
The statement further explained that the agitation by comdr Kyrian Nnadi led imo NATA executive that COCEAN OIL & GAS should leave their land at Avu modern mechanic village for them ( mechanics) which he Chief Ndubuise intend to grabb by force is in order as directed by imo mechanics.
The release also noted that there is nothing wrong for a local chapter of the union in passing a confidence vote on their chairman but that should not be done for ulterior motive or selfish reason against the interest of members.
The statement finally revealed that there was never a time a sum of #200,000 naira was given to their Chairman Comdr Kyrian Nnadi as mobilization for Gov. Uzodinma’s second term inauguration ceremony as quoted in the said publication, rather the then S A to the Governor on Artisans should be reached for explanation on the said money by anyone who cares to know.
The statement therefore warned those whom Chief Ndubuise wants to use to destabilize the peace and unity of imo mechanics to have a rethink and desist henceforth or face sanction for sabotaging the union. Re afairrming
that a gift from Chief Ndubuise is a Greek gift which might work against them and their families in future
