: Former Gov Sees Alliance As Avenue To Bounce Back
Ahead of November 11 Governorship election in Imo,the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma has again penetrated Owerri Zone and entered into alliance with the immediate former Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha. Recall that Governor Uzodinma had in the bid to conquer Owerri Zone, picked lady Ekomaru from the largest Local Government in Imo, the Mbaitoli as a running mate. Lead Express gathered that Uzodinma picked the said Ekomaru to disrupt the votes of the PDP Governorship candidate, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu who hails from the area as well as to get a block vote of the people of Mbaitoli. However, midweek Lead gathered that in the bid to also get the block vote from Mbaise nation, the Governor and his old friend, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha have agreed to partner and to work together in the next election. As at the time of filing this report,Lead gathered that the two Elephants of Imo politics have agreed to work together as Ihedioha has promised to call his teeming supporters to inform them of the new development any time soon. Lead authoritatively gathered that some of the leaders of the Rebuild Imo, the political structure of Ihedioha across the State were cautioned against plans to work and deliver the AA Candidate, Ogunewe. This paper further learnt that the leadership of the Rebuild Imo had before now formed alliance with Ogunewe ahead of November Polls. An insider source in political camp revealed that Ihedioha warned those behind the moves to stop adding that it would be better to lose than to lose out completely. According to the said Speaker, the former Governor was of the opinion that supporting any other candidate for the November 11 Governorship election would truncate the chances of him (Ihedioha) coming back as Governor hence in 2027 hence the best bet is to allow Uzodinma complete his second term and all would contest afresh in 2027. It would be recalled that Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha had wanted to run for Imo Governorship election of November 11 under the platform of the PDP but later withdrew when he found out that the National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu was hell bent of picking the Ticket. Ihedioha who was removed after Seven Months as Governor of Imo State by the Nigeria Supreme Court in 2020 wrote to the National leadership of the PDP, demanding that he would run for the seat of Number one Citizen of Imo State only if he would go unopposed in the primary. However, when his demand was not granted,he withdrew from the race hence Anyanwu emerged the consensus Candidate of the party in the forthcoming Polls.
