In response to social media claims surrounding Governor Hope Uzodimma’s recent meeting with the World Bank over water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects in Imo State, the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources, Ozo Obinna Ogwuegbu, has clarified the situation.

This is even coming as the Commissioner, who has been actively involved in advancing WASH services across Imo State, facilitated the governor’s recent discussions with the World Bank as part of the NG-SURWASH program.

In a press release made available to Lead Express and signed by Christopher Ononukwe, media aide to the Honourable Commissioner, emphasized the need to correct these inaccuracies, which, according to him, could mislead the public regarding the state government’s commitment to enhancing public services.

“Our attention has been drawn to certain false and inaccurate statements making rounds on social media. Normally, we would not respond to such dramatic and unfounded reports, but it has become imperative to correct these claims and provide the public with factual information,” Ononukwe’s statement reads.

He further noted that, “these misleading social media claims appear to be aimed at undermining the state’s ongoing Shared Prosperity initiatives. However, they are baseless and distort the truth about Governor Uzodimma’s engagement with the World Bank.”

According to the statement, the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources facilitated Governor Uzodimma’s recent meeting with the World Bank in line with the governor’s directive. Ogwuegbu’s involvement underscores his commitment to improving WASH services in Imo State.

The Commissioner also highlighted the governor’s consistent support for the World Bank program through various approvals, including funding for six NG-SURWASH projects in Amiri, Oguta, Umuoba IMSU, Dikenafai, and Ubomiri. Three of these projects are nearing completion, aiming to enhance water, sanitation, and hygiene services for residents of Imo State.

Additional officials attended the meeting, reflecting the wide expertise needed to ensure the success of these key projects. Governor Uzodimma remains dedicated to his Shared Prosperity Agenda, prioritizing sustainable development and improving living standards for Imo residents.

“We urge the public to disregard these baseless reports and focus on the real progress being made under Governor Uzodimma’s leadership. In the WASH sector, Imo State is advancing toward prosperity and will continue its development efforts despite distractions from misleading social media claims,” the statement concludes.

This clarification reinforces the Imo State Government’s commitment to tangible improvements in water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure as part of its broader vision for sustainable development.
