:House Adopts Motion To Immortalize Iwuanyanwu.

The Light Up Imo Project Bill chiefly sponsored by member representing Owerri West State Constituency and Majority leader Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi has passed been passed into law by the State House of Assembly.

The law which passed second reading at the last plenary enjoyed Overwhelming support of the members of the House of Assembly.

The House same day passed two other bills into laws, which include the law to establish the Orashi Special Energy Free Trade Zone and other related matters and law to repeal the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission Law No. 13 of 2020 and to enact a law to establish a Commission for the development of the Oil Producing Areas in Imo State and for other related matters.

it could be recalled that during Plenary on Thursday 5th September, 2024, the Speaker of the 10th House Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe directed the bill to their respective House Standing Committees for legislative scrutiny after it was read the second time.

At the resumed Plenary yesterday Tuesday 10th September, the Committees submitted their reports to the Committee of the whole House where the necessary amendments and recommendations were adopted as a working documents.

As the bills were read the third time, the Speaker put their considerations to voice votes as the Majority of the members voted in favour.

While passing the bills into law, the Speaker, Olemgbe thanked the members for their immense cooperation during the consideration.

Meanwhile, motion to Immortalize the name of Chief Dr. E. C. Iwuanyanwu was adopted by the House.
The motion which was moved by the member representing Mbaitoli Constituency, Innocent Ikpamezie, on the floor of the Assembly.

Presenting the motion, Ikpamezie narrated that Iwuanyanwu is a worthy and an illustrious son of not only Imo State but the South-East region who has distinguished himself in various human endeavors.

He maintained that late Iwuanyanwu has in no small measure contributed immensely towards the upliftment of the state pointing out that, during the building of the state’s International Cargo Airport, he donated a significant amount of money that led to the realization of the project.

“Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu as an international entrepreneur played a significant role in setting the pace for economic development in the South-East region and the nation at large.

“His philanthropic works in Nigeria worth billions of naira and remain unforgettable having provided good roads, water, homes for destitute as well as awarded scholarships to many students at secondary and university levels,” he said.

The lawmaker noted that Iwuanyanwu died in active service as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo also President of Owerri Peoples Assembly, explaining that under his leadership he preached peace, unity and oneness of the Igbo race.

He enjoined his colleagues to join in urging the governor to immortalize Iwuanyanwu by renaming the Imo International Conference Centre after him.
