During Plenary on Wednesday, Imo State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a Law To Amend Imo State Pilgrims Welfare Board Law No 13 Of 1982 Into Law.
The Executive Bill which was Chiefly sponsored by the Majority leader of Imo House of Assembly 10th session and member representing, Owerri West State Constituency, Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi was resolved into the Committee of whole House to enable the House Members to deliberate clause by clause.
Leading in the debate, the member representing Oru East State Constituency and Chief Whip of the 10th Session, Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri said the amendment has become imperative which according to him, will delete some hiccups associated with its functions and duties
Nwaneri also pointed out that the bill would also strengthen the Board so that it will take care of the Christians and Muslims pilgrimage.
The Bill which have been in existence with out amendment, the amendment stipulates the functions of the Board Chairman.
The bill further stipulates that both the Board Chairman and Executive Secretary will be men of proven integrity and should be appointed by the state Governor and the chairman shall preside the meeting of the Board members.
While passing the bill after it had read the third time, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe and member representing Ihitte Uboma State Constituency put it to vote as the “aye” voice was louder. He further directed the clerk to transmit it to the Governor for his assent and other related actions.
