: Okeke Leads Team to Imsu : Announces ₦200,000 Award for Best Graduating Law Student.
In a bid to promote academic excellence and inspire students to strive for greatness, particularly in fields that impact justice and societal progress, the Chairman of Owerri Club, Chief Charles Okeke (Odiuko), has announced the establishment of an annual prize of ₦200,000 for the best graduating student in Criminal Law at Imo State University (IMSU).
During a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. Uchefula Ugonna Chukwumaeze, and his administrative team, Chief Okeke, alongside his entourage, emphasized Owerri Club’s commitment to fostering a mutually beneficial partnership with the university. He stated that this collaboration aims to promote academic growth and community development while benefiting both the university and the club.
Chief Okeke highlighted that Owerri Club and IMSU are not only immediate neighbors but also share a common commitment to excellence, community service, and the advancement of education. He outlined various mutual benefits and potential synergies between the two institutions, including: Exclusive Membership Opportunities as Senior university staff members will have access to Owerri Club’s exclusive membership, offering opportunities for relaxation and social interaction; Use of Sports and Recreational Facilities. “IMSU staff will be able to utilize the club’s top-notch sports and recreational amenities, including tennis and badminton courts, billiards, mini football pitches, table tennis, and more, promoting a healthy work-life balance”, he reiterated.
Other benefits include, Internship and Work Experience for Students as the Club is determined to provide students with valuable internship opportunities in fields such as hospitality management, event coordination, and administration; Joint Cultural and Social Events, “the club and university will collaborate on cultural and social events, such as seminars, exhibitions, and recreational activities, fostering cross-community engagement”.
The Owerri Club Boss further noted that the club aims to work with IMSU to strengthen ties with alumni through joint events, providing opportunities for graduates to reconnect with the university and explore the unique benefits of Owerri Club membership. He also expressed it’s interest partnering with the school In Research Initiatives and Lecture Series that benefit the community, including an annual joint lecture series focusing on law, economics, social justice, and health. While proposing for Admission Quotas for financial Club Members in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Chief Okeke further expressed hope that this partnership would create a vibrant and thriving community where intellectual, social, and cultural exchanges flourish.
Earlier during the visit, Chief Okeke and his team, which included Hon. R.C. Omeaku, Mazi Ugochukwu Okereke, Engr. Okey Dike, Dr. Shah Azu Okorie, Dr. Innocent Emereole, Dr. Eloka Unaigwe, Barr. Norbert Agbodike, Mr. Magnus Ogu, and Ichie Dr. Theophilus Adolalom, donated gift items including an audio loudspeaker to improve communication in the Vice Chancellor’s office.
Overwhelmed by the visit, Vice Chancellor Prof. Chukwumaeze described Chief Okeke as a man of great integrity and motivation. He noted that this was the first visit of its kind by Owerri Club since its inception and praised the club for its generous contribution to the Faculty of Law.
The Vice Chancellor assured the delegation that the university would draft a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to solidify the partnership and further explore the mutual benefits outlined by Chief Okeke. He also mentioned that the university’s governing board would review the proposal, particularly as IMSU is already making efforts to enhance sports development on campus.
