Supreme Court Verdict: 20 States Likely To Lose Allocation

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has delivered judgement on the suit filed by the Attorney General of the Federation against the 36 Governors, for the granting of financial autonomy to the 774 Local Government Areas.

Delivering the judgement, Justice Agim said that allocations to the Local Government should be paid directly to them from now henceforth. The apex court also said that such fund should be paid to Local Government Areas with duly elected officials and not Caretaker Committees.

This means that Local Government Areas in 20 States of the Federation will not get the allocation until Local Government election is carried out. The States are:

  1. Anambra State;
  2. Rivers State 3 Jigawa State
  3. Imo State
  4. Kwara State
  5. Zamfara State
  6. Benue State
  7. Bauchi State
  8. Plateau State
  9. Abia State
  10. Enugu State
  11. Katsina State
  12. Kano State
  13. Sokoto State
  14. Yobe State
  15. Ondo State
  16. Osun State
  17. Delta State
  18. Akwa Ibom State
  19. Cross River State
