The apex Court of Nigeria has given clarifications on its recent Judgement which hitherto gave financial autonomy to Local Governments in Nigeria.
This followed the release of the Certified True Copy of the said judgmen
In the said Judgement, the apex Court made it clear that the constitution gives the Local Government the status of the third tier of the Government hence it is unconstitutional for the State Governors to decide the Tenure of elected Councils in their various States.
However, the stand of the Court now implies that elected Local Government Chairmen and Councillors would be for a period of four years just like the State House of Assembly members, Governors and members of the National Assembly.
