Uborji Ukuku Community Central Union has held a democratic and peaceful election where responsible and charismatic leaders emerged.

The election was held on the 16th of January 2023 at the community’s public square in Owerri West LGA of Imo State, after several failed attempts and clashes of interests by concerned indigenes of the area to have a standing executive order to handle the affairs of the community.

For a smooth transition, new strategy was adopted for the five kindreds that make up Uborji community to nominate two persons. The kindreds are Umuojile, Umuoke, Umuagriga, Umukaala and Umuoro. Likewise each representative from all the social clubs in the community.

Thus, a consensus stand among all the contestants was spontaneously reached as the Caretaker Committee of Uborji Central Union, Mr, Nnanna Ojinnaka announced names of the new executives to the public who are Provost 1, Mr. Leo Obi, Provost 2, Samuel Nwachukwu, Financial Secretary, Ojiaku Onwuegbuchulem Felix, Secretary, Silas Iwunze, Treasurer, Nnanna Ojinnaka, Vice Chairman, Emmanuel Madu and Chairman- elect, Uborji Central Union, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Martins Okorie.

In his inaugural speech, the newly elected Chairman of UUCU, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Martins Okorie, said he will always accept good ideas brought up to him for implementation, as well as ensures that justice prevails by working optimally with the elders council.

With Eze- elect of Eziama autonomous community, Chief Julius Madu, telling the new exco to abide by the constitution of the union, saying it will not be business as usual, urging them to capitalize on the new community development pact to ensure that Uborji moves forward.

Adding his voice, Chairman, Uborji Elders Council, Elder Damian Obinanwa, observed that the council was elated on the emergence of the new leadership of UUCU, thanking everyone for making the transition a success, saluting Elder Alloy Ashiegbu, Vice Chairman, Elder Innocent Nrimugwe, Secretary, Elder Dickson Atasie, Treasurer, Mr. Sunday Edwards, Assistant Secretary, Elder Christian Ohanyere, Provost 1, Elder Clifford Ihejeto, Provost 2 among others for their superb work, charging the people to support the new leadership to succeed.

The oldest man in Uborji, Elder Brendan Ofoegbu, was present as the new executive members of Uborji Central Union were elected and inaugurated by the Elders Council Chairman, Obinanwa and the grand personality of Uborji Community Elders, Brendan Ofoegbu.

The transition process was adjudged to be the most peaceful election in the history of Uborji Central Union.
