Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma has appealed to the National Assembly to make laws that would give the Nigerian Universities powers to derobe Lecturers involved in sexual harassment, sorting amongst other corrupt practices.
Aside the Lecturers, the Governor said that laws that would also empower same Universities to withdraw certificates of graduates that engage in Cultism, criminality amongst other practices adding that such measures would help in curbing corruption in the Universities and Nigeria in general.
Governor Uzodinma who disclosed this at the 52 convocation ceremony of the University of Nigeria Nsukka on Thursday however described Universities in Europe and other Western Wards as agents of development.
Delivering the lecture on the topic” Why Universities should lead the way to a new Nigeria”, Uzodinma challenged Nigeria Universities to sit up and emulate their counterparts in the Western World that contributed over 70 present to the development of their nations.
Describing Nigeria as a prosperous nation, Uzodinma appealed to the Universities to be Bridge builders and uniting factors and not the other way round.
