I paused for a moment and asked myself Who can hug an elephant? The sheer size of an elephant makes it impossible to embrace in its entirety. One must make a choice—decide which part to hold onto. This was the very dilemma I faced when reflecting on the extraordinary figure of HRM Eze (Dr.) Douglas Okwara, Okwarachukwu IV, Igwe & Paramount Ruler of Umuna Ancient Kingdom, Head of Isu Clan, Orlu LGA, Imo State, Member of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, and Member of the Southern Traditional Rulers Council.
Among the many facets of this towering “Elephant,” I choose to embrace the parts that resonate most deeply with me: Eze Douglas, the Philanthropist of Repute, the Business Guru, the Monarch of Many Distinctions, and the Servant Leader.
Beyond his royal duties, HRM Eze Douglas Okwara stands as a guiding light in traditional leadership, a fearless advocate for his people, and a champion of progressive governance. As South East Chairman of the Association of Christian Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (AOCTRON), he seamlessly merges faith with leadership, ensuring that his reign is anchored in divine wisdom and moral uprightness. His role as Vice-Chairman of the Progressive Traditional Rulers of the South East further cements his place as a revered voice in the council of kings, where he relentlessly advocates for unity, development, and cultural preservation.
Yet, his greatness does not end at the palace gates. He is a visionary entrepreneur, a builder of empires, and a pillar of economic transformation. Under his leadership, several businesses have thrived, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economic landscape:
President/CEO, Douglas Communication (Nig.) Ltd.
President/CEO, Evergreen Haulage (Nig.) Ltd.
President/CEO, Evergreen Construction & Properties Ltd.
However, what truly sets him apart is his boundless generosity and unwavering commitment to humanity. Through the Okwarachukwu Foundation, he has dedicated his resources to empowering the less privileged, supporting education, and providing hope to those in need. His philanthropy is not a duty but a calling, one he fulfills with unwavering dedication and a heart full of compassion.
So, who can hug an elephant? Perhaps no one can grasp its entirety. But if I must choose some parts to embrace, I choose his benevolence, his visionary leadership, his business acumen, and his undying devotion to the betterment of his people.
HRM Eze (Dr.) Douglas Okwara, Okwarachukwu IV, is not just a King; he is an institution, an inspiration, and a legacy in motion. His reign is not only marked by authority but by impact—an impact that will echo for generations to come.
