Joy knew no bounds in Umuihugba/Umuodu autonomous community in Owerri Municipal Local Government Area of Imo State as the indigenes of the area officially handed over Site Project to the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for the installation of Solar Powered Streetlights in the community.
The Solar Powered Streetlights project was attracted by the APC candidate for Owerri Federal Constituency in the 2023 election, Hon. CDB Williams.
The contracting firm handling the project is Cascade Engineering Systems Limited based in Port-Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
The Site Handover ceremony was held at the residence of Hon. CDB Williams, No. 68 Ihugba Street, Owerri Municipal, on Tuesday.
The people who handed over the Site for the Project to NDDC through the Eze- elect of Umuihugba/Umuodu autonomous community, Analyn Nwaneri, thanked the Commission for the project which they said is worthwhile and promised that they will support its completion and sustenance.
Handing over the project to the Contractor, the Imo State Representative on the Board of NDDC, Hon. Kyrian Uchegbu, noted that 229 Poles are to be installed in Umuihugba/Umuodu community, saying each pole is 8 metres in height and 25 metres apart from each other, guaranteed to generate 100 mega warts of light.
Uchegbu, while hinting that Umuihugba/Umuodu community is among the communities in the 9 states of the Niger Delta Region that benefited from the Light Up Communities In The Niger Delta Areas Program, urged the people to protect the project, keep the streets neat, shun marching ground money, support the contractor to be able to complete the project to enable him get paid.
The Imo NDDC Rep urged the people to be grateful to their kinsman, Hon. CDB Williams, for attracting the Solar Powered Streetlights, adding that the NDDC makes difference towards societal good.
Expressing delight over the project, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru, said the project, when completed, would encourage socialisation and development in the area, saying the Governor drew the project to Imo State in order to light up Imo communities, charging the people to keep the project safe and neat to enable it last long for their own benefit.
Appreciating NDDC and the State Government for the project which he described as worthwhile, Hon. CDB Williams, who attracted the project, said Amaram Street and Extension, Madumere, Ihugba, Zander Streets, Christ Church Road, parts of Uzii layout, Mbaise, Tetlow Roads including pubic centres (where you have village square), school, health centre and other areas are going to be installed with the Solar Powered Streetlights to encourage relaxation, engender security and development.
The APC chieftain and community leader added that NDDC is making life more easy and bearable for the people of the Niger Delta Area through Road construction, other infrastructural developments, healthcare delivery and financial interventions to oil producing states.
Among leaders in the area who graced the Site Handover ceremony included CP Okoro Dan, (former SA to the Governor on Security), Nze Alex Ohanwe (founding Chairman of APC, Owerri Municipal LGA and former OMMATA President, South East), Sir Leo Ozurumba, Sir Hendricks Emereole (former PG, Umuihugba/Umuodu) and Chief Angela Akunna, who eulogized CDB Williams for attracting the project.
