It was Jubilation galore in Owerri as Imo State Ministry of Environment & Sanitation celebrate the 2024 World Environment Day.
Speaking during the event the state Commissioner For Environment And Sanitation, Barr Major Ejikeme Emenike said that the event tend to remind Nigerians the pressing need to address the challenges facing the planet with particular reference in the realm of Land restoration,deserfication and resilience
Barr Ejikeme Emenike noted that the environmental challenges not only affect the ecological balance of the environment but also have profound socio -economic implications for the communities and future generations.
The State Commissioner stated that the state government is committed to tackling environmental challenges through collaborative effort with stakeholders, civil society, organisation, and international community.
He Urged Imo indigenes to be environmental friendly and cultivate the habit of cleaning their environment in order to compliment the effort of the state. Governor, Senator, Hope Uzodimma towards environmental sustainability.
He pointed out that the theme of 2024 Environment Day is “Land Restoration, Desertification, And Drought Resilience and stressed the need for imo people to reaffirm their total Commitment to stewardship of the environment and work towards its protection and preservation.
In his lecture titled “Land Abuse Policy Regulation And Sustainable Environment Management,” Prof J .N Ogbule Urged imolites to shun act capable of land Abuse and call for the implementation of the laws that deals with land abuse.
Also, in his lecture on “Land Degradation Effective Measure For Achieving Sustainable Land Restoration,” Prof Luke Uzoigwe called on imo people to stop land pollution.
In his vote of thabks , the permanent secretary, Ministry of Ministry & Sanitation ,Mr Chukwuma Ihenacho, thank the organisers and the sponsors for the success of the event.
The highlight of the ceremony was planting of trees performed by the State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma ably represented by his Deputy Lady Chinyere Ekomoru .
The personalities present during the occasion are the Commissioner for Sports ,Hon Obinna Onyeocha , Commissioner For Rural Development,Hon Ifeanyi Oruh , Commissioner For Digital Economy,Hon Chimezie Amadi ,Dr Abiola Bashorun, Vice Cancellor University of Agriculture and Environmental studies,Permanent Secretaries amongst others.
