Imo set to recycle waste products as Onyemaechi’s bill passed into law

 The bill for a law to repeal the Imo State Waste Management Agency Law No 5 of 2020 and to enact a law to establish the Eastern Waste Management Incorporated to address the waste management challenges in Imo State by instituting a reliable waste management system for the optimal benefit of the people of Imo State and for other related matters has been passed by the Imo State House of Assembly.
   Leading debate on the bill during its second reading, the chief sponsor of the bill and Majority Leader of the House representing Owerri West state constituency, Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi revealed that Governor Hope Uzodinma, the visionary governor, deemed it fit to reenact waste management law, noting that the reenactment is obvious and there is need for manpower to strengthen the areas.
   Rt Hon Onyemaechi stated that we are entering the rainy season, and there are health implications of mismanagement of waste including cholera, pointing out that the governor usd the Assembly to reenact the law.
   He emphasized that Lagos State is recycling their waste, giving employment to those that can drive, escavators, and the teeming youths can be engaged, noting that it is in the interest of the youths.
   The lawmaker recalled that in some streets,the refuse liter the environment, and maintained that the Public Private Partnership is a perfect idea that will sanitize the state and a way to make things easier.
   He emphasized that PPP  is allowed in a democratic setting, stressing that the governor has done well and is still doing well, and noted that  through the passage of the bill, Imo State will start recycling waste products.   
   The lawmakers who supported the bill include the member for Onuimo,. Hon Ubah James Esile, Ezinihitte Mbaise and Dr Henry Agbasaonu among others.
   The bill then passed through Committee of the Whole House, passed through 3rd reading and finally passed into law.
   The Speaker, Rt Hon Chike Olemgbe directed the clerk to produce a clean copy of the bill and send to the governor for his assent.
